[2013] This project was an investigation of a design challenge popular in the Grasshopper community while at UVA. I extended a tree-generating code snippet written in Python to use collision detection and create an interactive circle packing tool. The application is for a screen wall or a facade. Specifically, in this studio we were considering cnc plasma cut corten steel which could act as a partially transparent cover where windows were desired but solar gain is a problem.
The black and white vs colored style show different ways of varying size across the circles. That is, either smoothly between small and big or as a split between big/bigger and very small.
