Created using Rhino, Grasshopper, Pepakura, laser cutting, and composimold. It was necessary to chill the hot glue using stainless-steel whiskey rocks to keep a reasonable pace. The 3D model was kept live on a laptop for reference, since for cnc efficiency the pieces were not labelled. Assembly time was 8 hours. The casting material is a measured mix of white cement, silica sand, glass fiber, fine aggregate, and additives to improve concrete flow. The pebbled surface texture occurs as the concrete liquid top layer loses moisture into the paper. In other projects, we’ve avoided this by using thick photo paper, but this project achieves low cost by using copier paper waste and reusable molding products.
